RE-HOMING STURGEON

Oversized sturgeon often outgrow private ponds as they reach maturity, presenting owners with the challenge of finding a safe and ethical solution. Sturgeon Sanctuary offers the UK’s first dedicated rehoming program for mature adult sturgeon, providing a reliable and compassionate alternative.

Rehomed fish will be housed in our sanctuary pool with other adult sturgeon — a purpose-built habitat designed to support their health, longevity, and natural behaviours.

Our team ensures:

  • Expert handling during transport

  • Long-term care within enriched environments

  • Ongoing health monitoring to maintain welfare standards

Pond owners can rehome their sturgeon with confidence, knowing they are contributing to a sustainable initiative that prioritizes species conservation and responsible aquaculture.

This program also supports the operational efficiency of Sturgeon Sanctuary by integrating mature sturgeon into the breeding population. It significantly reduces the financial burden of sourcing high-value female and male broodstock or raising juveniles to maturity — a process that typically spans more than six years. Through this initiative, we strengthen our genetic pool while promoting ethical stewardship across the ornamental and aquaculture sectors.

Re-homing could also include suitable forever ponds from our vast customer base of expert sturgeon keepers dotted around the UK.

We would like to help everybody. However, at this present time we can not re=home and house every single sturgeon and sterlet. This is due to a high volume of requests and now we must put the most in need of re=homing first.

Therefore, sturgeon must be a minimum of 5 feet in length and sterlet 3 feet in length to be considered for us to rehome. We will provide another large habitat for slighlty smaller sturgeon in the near future.

What is needed when you contact us;

Rough area of Address. (eg Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow)

Sturgeon/sterlet size and type. (eg Diamond Back 5ft)

How many you require re=homing. (eg 1 sturgeon, 2 sterlet)

We will reply as soon as possible and may ask for picture of the fish emailing to us.

For all rehoming enquiries, please contact our team to arrange the safe and responsible transfer of your sturgeon. We provide expert care throughout the relocation process.
